Bike Servicing

Keep your ride in top shape

With regular maintenance and servicing, you can keep your bike performing as smoothly as the day you got it. Regardless of your cycling experience, we recommend having your bike serviced by an authorized Giant retailer. They have the necessary expertise, tools, and knowledge to keep your ride in top condition, whether on the road or trails.

Why Should You Service Your Bike?

Routine bike servicing is essential for prolonging the lifespan of your bicycle and its components. It ensures smoother performance for a longer time and minimizes the need for frequent replacements.

If you continue riding a bike that has undergone significant wear and tear, it can lead to further damage to its components, ultimately resulting in costly repairs. Take the chain, for example—replacing it before it wears out prevents unnecessary damage to the cassette and chainrings. However, a heavily worn chain will cause excessive wear on these parts, requiring them to be replaced simultaneously.

Regular servicing not only enhances safety but also saves money in the long run. A well-maintained bike provides a more enjoyable riding experience.

Basic Safety Check

A basic safety check should be performed every 7–14 days or before any long ride. This quick inspection focuses on key moving parts in an “M” shape, starting from the front wheel and working backward. When tightening any bolts, always refer to the correct torque settings, which can be found on the component or in your bike’s manual. We recommend using a torque wrench for adjustments.

Once you become familiar with the process, you should be able to complete a full bike check within five minutes. If you spot an issue, contact your nearest retailer for a service or repair.

Many retailers offer free safety checks, so if you’re unsure about any step, reach out to a Giant retailer for assistance.

1. Wheels & Hubs

Ensure the wheel is securely fitted using the quick-release skewer or thru-axle bolt. Tighten it while the bike is on the ground to ensure proper alignment. Check the hub condition by rocking the wheel side to side—if there’s excessive movement or grinding when spinning, the bearings may need replacement.

2. Tyres

Use a floor pump to check that the tyre pressure is at the correct level. Perform a visual inspection for any thorns, cuts, or debris. Also, ensure the tyre is properly seated around the rim by checking the manufacturer’s safety line

3. Brakes

While spinning the wheel, test the brakes by squeezing the lever. If excessive force is needed or braking feels spongy, the cable tension may require adjustment. Ensure the wheel moves freely through the brake calipers, listening for any rubbing against the brake pads. If you hear friction, an adjustment is needed.
