The wrong size can make riding miserable. A bike that is too big feels heavy and scary. Too small, and your knees and back hurt. Here’s how to get it right.

Why Liv?

Liv is Giant’s women-first brand. Liv says it is the only women’s brand that makes its own bikes in-house from start to finish, and that it designs every bike around women’s body data — each frame size is designed separately, and the saddle, handlebar, stem and suspension tuning are chosen for women riders.

Step 1: Know two measurements

  • Height (barefoot)
  • Inside leg (barefoot, standing against a wall: press a hardback book up firmly between your legs and measure from the floor to its top edge)

Step 2: Use the approximate starting chart

Mountain bikes (most common Liv sizes):

Your height Usual Liv size
152–161 cm XS
160–168 cm S
165–173 cm M
172–180 cm L

In two rows? See “Between two sizes?” below.

  • Road bikes start smaller: about 149–156 cm is XXS, 155–162 cm is XS, 161–168 cm is S.
  • City and fitness bikes come in XS–M only. Above about 166 cm, take M.
  • Under 150 cm? Ask us about XXS or smaller-wheel XS models.
  • Over 180 cm? A Giant bike in L or XL may fit you better.

Approximate only, based on Liv’s published size guides. Sizes vary by model — always test-ride.

Step 3: Check the fit on the bike

  • Standover: stand over the frame (the top tube) with both feet flat. You should have a few centimetres of space — more on a mountain bike. Your inside leg should be a few cm more than the bike’s “standover height” on the Liv size chart.
  • Reach: sitting on the saddle with hands on the grips, your elbows should be slightly bent — not locked straight, not cramped.
  • Saddle height: at the bottom of the pedal stroke, your knee is slightly bent.
  • Brake levers: you can reach and pull them comfortably with one or two fingers.
4 fit checks on the bike: standover, reach, saddle height, brake levers

Between two sizes?

  • Choose the smaller size if you want quick, playful handling or ride technical trails.
  • Choose the larger size if you ride long distances or want more stability.
  • Best of all: ride both.
