Giant has added new versions of its cross-country (XC) race bike, the Anthem, and its women’s twin from Liv, the Pique. The headline: the new Advanced Pro models use the same FlexPoint Pro suspension as Giant’s flagship Anthem SL — the bike family behind Alan Hatherly’s 2025 world title — at a much lower price.

Here is what is new, and which one makes sense for riding in Kenya.

The new versions

Model Fork Rear travel Built for
Anthem / Pique Advanced Pro 120mm 120mm Racing and fast XC loops
Anthem / Pique X Advanced Pro 130mm 120mm Rougher, steeper, more technical trails
Anthem / Pique Advanced SL SE 120mm 120mm Top-level racing — limited edition

Travel = how far the suspension moves. More travel = smoother over rough ground.

Comparison of the three new Anthem and Pique versions: fork, rear travel, use and price

Advanced Pro — the race bike for the rest of us

  • Carbon frame made in Giant’s own composite factory, using Giant’s own carbon.
  • FlexPoint Pro suspension, 120mm front and rear — the same suspension design as the top SL model. A small flip chip changes the bike’s angles, so you can set it up for the trails you ride most.
  • Giant-engineered suspension — fork and rear shock tuned for FlexPoint Pro.
  • Room for two water bottles — useful on long, hot rides (one on the smallest Pique size).
  • One-piece handlebar and stem for a clean look and a low, fast riding position.
  • XCA 2 wheels with extra-thick rim edges, so a hit on a sharp rock is less likely to dent the rim or cut the tyre.
  • Shimano Deore 12-speed and a dropper seatpost (it lowers the saddle at the push of a lever for descents).

European launch price: about EUR 3,800. Prices vary by country.

X Advanced Pro — more confidence when the trail gets rough

The same carbon frame design and rear suspension, with a longer 130mm fork for more stability on steep, loose descents — plus storage inside the frame for a tool, a tube and snacks. Available as the Giant Anthem X and the Liv Pique X.

European price: about EUR 3,800–3,900.

Our view: for most Kenyan trails — Ngong, Kedong, the Rift Valley escarpment — the X Advanced Pro is the better all-rounder. Choose the Advanced Pro if you race or ride mostly smooth, fast tracks like Karura.

Advanced SL SE — the limited edition

Giant’s top XC race bike in a limited-edition paint scheme — Stormfire Sprint on the Anthem, a hand-finished Stella Storm on the Liv Pique. The Anthem frame has been re-engineered and is 89g lighter than before.

It is the first bike with the new CADEX Max XC carbon wheels, plus RockShox Flight Attendant (suspension that adjusts itself as you ride), SRAM XX electronic shifting, a Quarq power meter (it measures your pedalling power) and a one-piece carbon handlebar.

European price: about EUR 14,000.

Why Liv Pique matters

The Pique is Liv’s women’s version of the Anthem: sizes from XS, a Liv saddle, and suspension tuned for the Pique. If you are a woman shopping for a serious XC bike, start with the Pique — and for rough Kenyan trails, look at the Pique X Advanced Pro.
